*for entering scores (winner enters them) , seeing latest rankings, round match assignments/match play deadline  & getting contact info

ROUND MATCH (mandatory match)

-every 10 days you'll be given a match (round)

-there is no guarantee that your round will involve playing up or down, and such requests cannot be guaranteed

MATCH PLAY DEADLINE

-must be played strict 10 day playing window (match deadline) , 1 extra day is give for each day of rain

LOCATION

-location of matches are dictated by where the majority of the ladder participants reside (Southbury) and this is the general policy. Players are encouraged to help each other by taking  distance , and court availability into consideration when deciding where their match will be played

Here are a few locations

SCORING

-any method of scoring can be used ( one set , 8 game pro set, 2 out of 3 sets, timed match ...ex. 1hr), as long as both players agree in advance; in a timed match the player that is ahead at the end wins

CHALLENGEE

-higher ranked player (moves down a spot upon loss to the challenger)

CHALLENGER

-lower ranked player (takes the spot of the challenger upon winning)

SETTING UP YOUR MATCH

-both players responsible for contacting and setting up their round match at a mutually convenient time

COMPULSATORY TIMES

-If your timings do not coincide (one person can only play week days 9-5 and the other only evenings and weekends) and you CANNOT agree, then you MUST play your match on a weekday  between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. This will be known as a 'compulsory match time'.

FORFEIT OF ROUND MATCHES

1) injury forfeit

2) if you cancel on your opponent more than once

3) unable to agree on time

If challenger ( lower ranked player) offers 3 'compulsory match times' and the challengee cannot make any of them, then challenger wins by forfeit

If challengee ( higher ranked player) offers 3 'compulsory match times' and the challenger cannot make any of them, then challengee wins by default

-player that is a "now show" (more than 1/2 hr late)  or cancels on the other during the compulsatory match time forfeits

4) failure to play by the match deadline

-if your match gets rained out you will receive an extra day for each day of rainout. If you cannot agree on a time , then the compulsatory rules take effect and dictate who will forfeit the match

-if both players cannot make any compulsatory times then they both forfeit and face a 10% drop in ranking penalty. ( player that has the required number of matches played does not get the penalty)

MMR -minimum match requirement (REQUIRED NR OF MATCHES TO AVOID RANKING PENALTY)

to avaoid a 10% drop in rank you need to play a minimum of a match per round . So if we are have completed round 5 , you should have 5 matches completed

INACTIVITY

-it is acceptable to take a one round ( 10-14 day)  leave of absence from a ladder , but with a 10% drop in ranking penalty ( this can be avoided if you are up to date on the MMR)

CHALLENGE MATCH  a.k.a "CHALLENGE"

-challenger (within valid challenge range)  can request a match by email /phone with a challengee ( cc or text Val Stoiana on all challenge requests )

-challengee has 2 days to respond , but the match must be played within 7 days of the challenge date.

-each challenge must be completed before another one can be requested on both challenger and challengee sides ( unless you have a lot of time on your hands to accommodate more than one challenge at a time)

FORFEIT OF CHALLENGE  MATCHES -by the chalangee

1) injury

2) not playing within 7 days of a challenge (players agree up to max 10 days)

3) unable to agree on time

If challenger ( lower ranked player) offers 3 'compulsory match times' and the challengee cannot make any of them, then challenger wins by forfeit

If challengee ( higher ranked player) offers 3 'compulsory match times' and the challenger cannot make any of them, then challenge is void

-chalangee that is a "now show" (more than 1/2 hr late)  or during the compulsatory match time forfeits

BALLS

Both players are responsible for bringing a new can of balls. Winner keeps new can.

NEW PLAYERS

New players can join the ladder at any moment. When you join the ladder, you may challenge ( i do this for you )any player at any position on the ladder up to 80% from the top for your first challenge. Chose very carefully whom you challenge since after this unique opportunity, you may only challenge players that are within range. If you lose the first challenge, you will be at the bottom of the ladder.

The standard rules of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) apply to ladder matches. The usual method of scoring is based on winning two of three sets (unless you agree differently BEFORE you play), with a tiebreak at the end of any set that reaches a score of six games each. In the tiebreak, the first to win seven points wins the set, but must win by at least two points. Alternatively, players may use any mutually agreeable method of scoring.

The rules will be interpreted and disputes between members will be settled at the sole discretion of the ladder administrators.

As is prudent in any recreational activity, and especially when involved with others, members should exercise due care in their involvement in a challenge ladder. The operators of the ladder cannot be responsible for injury to members or others, damage to property, or other liability arising out of membership in and use of the challenge ladder. By participating in the challenge ladder, each member accepts and agrees to abide by its rules.
